Diamonds of Russia

In 2004, the Russian geological community celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the discovery of the vast East Siberian diamond fields, the development of which ranks Russia as one of the world leaders in diamond production, along with South Africa, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. This discovery became a turning point in a three-hundred-year history of development of spacious Russian lands from the Baltic Sea in the west to the Pacific coast in the east.
Dr. Galina F. Anastasenko is curator of the Saint Petersburg University Mineralogical Museum and the author of several scientific and popular articles and books about minerals.

Dr. Michael Laybov, a consulting editor of
Rocks & Minerals, is the editor/publisher of the many Mineralogical Almanac in-English books and videos on Russian minerals and mineral localities.
