Australian Fossil & Mineral Museum

Home of the Somerville Collection
Bathurst, New South Wales

In 2000 Warren Somerville donated his world-class collection of minerals and fossils to the Australian Museum, which now holds it in trust for the people of Australia. The collection is displayed at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum—Home of the Somerville Collection in Bathurst, New South Wales, where it is seen by visitors from around the world. Although the museum is housed in an 1876 public school building, the facility underwent a major renovation before being outfitted with modern fixtures. Thus, the quality of the collection and the museum’s design combine to provide a unique educational resource.
Mark Rheinberger and Ernst Holland, both avid mineral collectors, are volunteers at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Musuem—Home of the Somerville Collection.
