History, Geology, and Mineralogy of the Bayport Limestone Quarries, Bellevue, Eaton County, Michigan

When collectors think of Michigan minerals, the famous copper and iron districts in the western Upper Peninsula usually come to mind. Michigan's Lower Peninsula is generally not known for yielding quality mineral specimens, with the exception of the celestine and sulfur crystals from the limestone quarries in Monroe County, which are among the finest found in North America.


Allan R. Blaske is a native of southwest Michigan and a graduate of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, with a degree in geology. He does consulting work as an environmental and engineering geologist in the Lansing, Michigan, area.
