Through the 'Scope: The Year in Micromounting—2017 Was a Year of Recovery

The year 2016 left micromounting in a bit of turmoil. We lost too many good people, and a couple of venues were in doubt. In 2017 there were signs of resurgence that we hope will carry into the future.


The Internet and its attendant attractions have distracted many young people from the urge to interact with nature and to collect natural things. As a result, we are a graying community, and our numbers tend to diminish perhaps a little more than those in other groups. We seem to lose four or five notable members each year, and 2017 was no exception.
