Collector's Note: A Comparison of Amethyst from the Pink Granites of Cuasso al Monte (Southern Alps, Italy) and from Brandberg (Namibia)

In the past the quarries of pink miarolitic granite of Cuasso al Monte in the Southern Alps have produced nice specimens of sceptered amethyst (a variety of quartz). Undoubtedly it represents the most aesthetic mineral from this locality in northern Italy and is like an ikon among mineral collectors in the Lombardy region. 


Dr. Alessandro Guastoni is the editor-in-chief of Rivista Mineralogica Italiana and the museum curator in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Padova.
