The Bancroft Gemboree: Still Going Strong for More Than Fifty Years!

My husband, George, and I began attending the Bancroft Gemboree back in the mid-1970s. The show helped supplement our income as part-time mineral dealers while he attended graduate school at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Many of our self-collected minerals came from the numerous, well-known localities that circle Bancroft: the Silver Crater mine, Turner's Island in Lake Clear near Eganville, the Bear Lake diggings near Tory Hill, and localities in the Wilberforce area, among others. Grenville minerals ranked high on our “favorites” list—in fact, they still do today.

Susan Robinson is a freelance artist specializing in painting mineral and gem specimens as well as birds and wildlife.
