A Marriage of Science and Art: Creating Quartz Specimens in the Laboratory

Many mineral collectors dream of finding their own beautiful crystal clusters, and some of them actually become successful field collectors. Very few collectors contemplate growing their own crystals, but perhaps uniquely Vlad Klipov has been inspired to not only grow them but also to create custom-designed, collectible specimens.

Janet H. Clifford is a geologist by training though not by profession. An avid mineral collector for more than forty years, she enjoys field trips, exhibiting at mineral shows, volunteering at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and occasionally editing or writing for the hobby.

Vlad A. Klipov is a professional geologist and has been an inventive, industrial crystal grower for nearly forty years, working mainly with hydrothermal methods.
