During the past ten years, many of us have marveled at this publication, Mineralogical Almanac, coming out of Russia. I don't know about you, but I was curious about the people behind the scenes and the story of how this magazine came to be. Two names, Michael Leybov and Ludmila (Egorova) Cheshko, sum up the story of the magazine. I was delighted when asked to write this article because I would get to know—as you will—two of the most talented, sweetest, positive people to pass through the mineral world.
In view of past political drama in the former Soviet Union, it must have been difficult for Michael and Ludmila (Luda) to take on the U.S. mineral scene and become so fully immersed in it. What is their background? Did they always dream of their own publication? What passion drives them to become better and better with each issue?
