Collector's Guide to the Vesuvianite Group

The vesuvianite group presently consists of four minerals: vesuvianite, fluorvesuvianite, manganvesuvianite, and wiluite. Good crystals are found worldwide in a variety of forms and colors, and vesuvianite is also a minor gem mineral. Besides producing superb specimens for the collector, minerals of the vesuvianite group are the subject of ongoing research interest because of their complicated chemistry and structure.

Robert J. Lauf is a materials scientist who recently retired after twenty-three years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is now a technology consultant and registered patent agent.
